One of the must-attend events on the North American racing calendar, this year’s Far Hills Race Meeting is set for Oct. 18. Excitement is building for the one-day crown jewel of steeplechasing, held at the picturesque Moorland Farm in Far Hills, N.J., and a terrific card has been organized, anchored by the $250,000 American Grand National, a Grade 1 stakes.

The rankings are a weekly rating of the top 10 horses in contention and are determined by each voter ranking their top 10 horses with points assigned on a descending 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

As much as the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Dixiana is a Grade 1 stakes, it is typically not a steppingstone to the Breeders’ Cup because it is restricted to 3-year-old fillies just three weeks before the World Championships and its 1/8-mile distance. But, with the quality of the fillies it attracts, don’t be surprised if some of the fillies in the field Oct.

The Maryland Thoroughbred industry will have its moment in the sun on Saturday, Oct. 11, when Laurel Park plays host to the 40th edition of the Jim McKay Maryland Million Day.
