In the sport of horse racing, a great deal of emphasis is placed on winning the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes, the three races that comprise the coveted U.S. Triple Crown.

Almost as much attention is paid to the Breeders’ Cup, the 14-race extravaganza that serves as the year-end championship of U.S. horse racing.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York Racing Association announced June 13 that the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival will return to historic Saratoga Race Course in June 2026 for a third year to allow for the on-time and uninterrupted construction of a new Belmont Park.

The Triple Crown is the pinnacle of American horse racing, awarded to a 3-year-old Thoroughbred that wins the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes in a single season.

With the 2025 U.S. Triple Crown season completed, the focus of the horse racing world shifts from Saratoga Race Course to across the pond for one of the most prestigious events on the annual calendar.
