Making the Grade, which will run through the 2021 Triple Crown races, focuses on the winners or top performers of the key races, usually from the previous weekend, who could make an impact on the Triple Crown. One Lucky Storm precipitated a new era. On Dec. 4, 2004, the 8-1 longshot became trainer Brad Cox’s first winner after going out on his own.

Brad Cox has an Eclipse Award for outstanding trainer on his mantle, a prize he received last month in reward for a dazzling 2020 campaign.

He won four Breeders' Cup races last year, trains a two-time champion in Monomoy Girl, and has one of the favorites next weekend in the $20 million Saudi Cup in Knicks Go.

Rombauer, a winner on turf and Grade 1-placed on dirt at age 2, is now a stakes winner on another surface, the synthetic Tapeta Footings track at Golden Gate Fields.
