Commandment

Commandment began his career as a 2-year-old and was fourth in his first lifetime start in a Keeneland maiden race on Oct. 4, 2025. He graduated from the maiden ranks in his second start on Nov. 1 at Churchill Downs.

Commandment made his 3-year-old debut in the $100,000 Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 3, 2026, and was victorious by 6 3/4 lengths as the 1-2 odds favorite atop a seven-horse field.

The next big test for Commandment came in the Grade 2 Coolmore Fountain of Youth Stakes going 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 28, and Commandment passed the test with a game win over Chief Wallabee and Solitude Dude to earn 50 qualifying points in the Road to the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve. Sent off as the 2.40-1 favorite atop a nine-horse field in the Fountain of Youth, Commandment stalked the pace and came through a huge opening along the rail into the stretch and battled late for the hard-fought victory by a neck.

Commandment was a game winner once again in his next start when he scored the victory in the $1 million Grade 1 Curlin Florida Derby presented by Hill 'n' Dale Farms at Xalapa. Sent off as the 1.90-1 second choice in a six-horse field in the Florida Derby going 1 1/8 miles at Gulfstream Park on March 28, Commandment needed every last step of the distance to get up to win by a nose at the wire after rallying from last to catch The Puma who had shaken clear in the final furlong. The win gave Commandment victories in three of the four Kentucky Derby prep races run at the Gulfstream meet along with wins in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes and the Fountain of Youth. Commandment earned another 100 Kentucky Derby points and can advance to Churchill Downs as one of the favorites for the run for the roses on the first Saturday in May. 

Commandment is trained by Brad Cox. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Into Mischief out of the dam Sippican Harbor by Orb.
