America’s top racehorses have surprisingly picky taste buds. When you’re a racetrack superstar, sometimes an ordinary diet of hay and oats just doesn’t cut it. Nothing wrong with a sweet tooth, right?

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah has a well documented affinity for carrots. He snacked on some in front of the media, the day following his Derby victory.

As we venture into the heart of the Road to the Kentucky Derby, several of horse racing's signature races are fast approaching. One of the unique common threads between many of horse racing's main events is the signature song ... a lasting (sometimes) connection between music and horse racing.

Attending the Kentucky Derby is on the bucket list of many horse racing fans. For fans of model horses, it’s Breyerfest, toy maker Breyer Animal Creations’ three-day event held annually at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky. The event started 26 years ago to create an international gathering of model horse hobby fans. Popularity of the event has continued to grow, with attendance of over 10,000 this year.

Bob Nastanovich was born in Rochester, N.Y. but he mostly grew up in Midlothian, Va. He graduated from University of Virginia in 1989 and moved to New York City and became a bus driver. In the 1990s, he played percussion, keyboards and screamed in the rock bands Pavement and Silver Jews. Pavement toured the world several times.
