Olympic athletes love competition and horse racing is one outlet where many of them get their fix in the offseason (or year-round).  Read up on some of the current and past Olympians involved in Thoroughbred racing and get ready for Rio's opening ceremonies this Friday.

With 22 Olympic medals, swimmer Michael Phelps is the most accomplished U.S. Olympian of all time. He’s also dived into owning racehorses recently with his swimming coach Bob Bowman.

There is something special about a “feel good” movie especially in today’s turbulent times. It’s good to see someone succeed. If the movie involves animals, then I am all in!  "Dark Horse" is a wonderful documentary that provides a fascinating story about a couple living in Wales who decided to breed a Thoroughbred. Born on a coal slagheap, the horse named Dream Alliance carried the hopes and dreams of their small syndicate from a gentlemen’s club in coal mining country to the Grand National horse race at Aintree.  

“The Japanese horse” they all called him, though he was born right here in the United States. Kentucky, even. A son of Tapit, our country’s top sire, which makes him related to many of the top American horses – including Creator, another gray horse in the Belmont Stakes. His maternal grandsire is Sunday Silence, the 1989 U.S. Horse of the Year.
