Lexington, Ky. (Jan. 8, 2025) – The National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Daily Racing Form, and the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters today announced the winners of the 2024 Media Eclipse Awards in six categories.

The 2024 Media Eclipse Award winners are as follows:

Live Television Programming – NBC Sports, “The 150th Kentucky Derby” – Lindsay Schanzer, Senior Producer, May 4, 2024

Feature Television Programming – NBC Sports, “The Impossible Dream,” – Rachel Goodman, Producer, May 4, 2024

The upcoming weekend in North American horse racing is comparatively light in terms of marquee races for January, as there are no Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve preps scheduled and several tracks have cancelled racecards due to weather conditions.

Andrew Fernung, 35, joined the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company in November as assistant sales coordinator. His family name draws respect in Ocala, Fla., as his father, John Fernung, was a renowned horseman and instrumental in mentoring several members of his family who now work in the industry.

Each new year in horse racing brings with it the hopes for a newly emerging group of star horses, anticipation for all the stakes races to come in the year ahead, and of course, the hopes of plenty of winning bets and big payoffs. As the calendar flips to 2025, let’s revisit our list of New Year’s resolutions horseplayers can make.

The 2025 racing calendar kicks off in North America with an active New Year’s Day schedule at several tracks around the country and continues on through the weekend, with two Kentucky Derby points preps – the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park and the Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct – slated for Saturday, Jan. 4.
