This past month Dom and I have been focusing on recuperation, weight gain, and building muscle and endurance.

After going to the Minnesota Horse Expo in April, Dom was exhausted! Being in a new place with all of the new sights and sounds, and meeting all of the people took a lot out of him. So, after we returned home, we sprinkled in some light work, but mostly Dom had the week off to recuperate and get his energy back.

After a few days of oppressive haze and high air quality alerts in the Northeast, the winds changed late in the week and cleared the atmosphere for a sensational Saturday of racing at Belmont Park, highlighted by the 155th Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets.

On a sun-drenched late May afternoon in downtown Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where the temperature is at a sweet spot – not too hot, but warm enough to hint of the summer heat to come – Tom Durkin, who arrived on his bright blue Vespa (his preferred mode of transportation) sits outside of a coffee shop conversing with a man at a nearby table.

Sports broadcaster Curt Menefee made some friendly discussion June 6, though not with his usual co-hosts on National Football League programs, but with horse trainers. He and other Fox Sports representatives hit the Belmont Park backstretch Tuesday morning, making introductions and compiling background for the network’s television coverage of the June 10 Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets.

History may be at hand for Jena Antonucci as she bids to become the first female trainer to capture the Belmont Stakes with Peter Pan Stakes winner Arcangelo. She is not viewing it that way.
