Turned Aside ran third in his career debut in September 2019 at Belmont Park and ran second at the Elmont, N.Y., track three weeks later in his second race. He followed with a breakthrough four-length runaway victory Oct. 20 in a three-quarter-mile turf sprint at Belmont. After an unplaced finish in his stakes debut, the American Pharoah colt posted a 3 ¼-length victory in an allowance race at Aqueduct in his final start as a 2-year-old.

Turned Aside returned from an extended break to make his 3-year-old bow in the Sir Cat Stakes June 19, 2020, at Belmont Park and finished second by a length to Jack and Noah. He turned the tables on that rival in the Grade 3 Quick Call Stakes July 24 at Saratoga, where he outdueled him early and then powered clear to win by 1 3/4 lengths.
Grade 3-placed winner Sustained, by War Front, is the dam (mother) of Turned Aside.
