Sweet Azteca won her career debut in her only start as a 3-year-old on May 2, 2023, at Churchill Downs. She made her second start with a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Las Flores Stakes on Jan. 1, 2024 at Santa Anita, then got back in the win column in her third start in an allowance optional claiming race on Feb. 2 at Santa Anita.

Sweet Azteca became a stakes winner for the first time when she won the Grade 1 $300,000 Beholder Mile Stakes on March 9, at Santa Anita. Sent off as the 3.40-1 second favorite on the tote board in a field of seven fillies and mares, Sweet Azteca went out to the lead and never looked back. She went wire-to-wire and beat favored Adare Manor by three-quarters of a length.
Sweet Azteca kept her winning ways going at Los Alamitos Race Course in her next start when she was victorious in the Grade 2 $202,500 Great Lady M. Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs on July 6. Sent off as the 0.70-1 favorite in a field of 10 fillies and mares, Sweet Azteca pressed the pace throughout, took command at the top of the stretch, and extended to an easy five-length win. The winning streak was extended to four with a facile front-running, seven-length runaway Aug. 25 at Del Mar in the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap.
Sweet Azteca's winning streak came to an end when she finished last in a four-horse field at 1-9 odds on the tote board in the Grade 3 $100,000 Chillingworth Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs at Santa Anita on Oct. 5.
Sweet Azteca returned to the races as a 5-year-old and made her 2025 debut in a familar spot on July 5 in the Grade 2 $200,000 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos in a race where she was the defending champion from 2024. Sweet Azteca's repeat bid in the Great Lady M was successful. She went right to the front from the start and took the field wire-to-wire to win by 1 1/2 lengths over heavy favorite Kopion atop a six-horse field in a 6 1/2 furlongs run in 1:14.32.
Sweet Azteca is trained by Michael McCarthty. She was bred in Kentucky by the sire Sharp Azteca out of the mare So Sweetitiz by Grand Slam.
