Summer in Saratoga, a daughter of Hard Spun owned by Highlander Training Center and trained by Joe Sharp, broke her maiden in her fourth career start when she scored by a neck in a 1 1/8-mile turf race at Keeneland in October 2019. She picked up two more wins on turf during her 4-year-old season in 2020, and started 2021 by tallying her first stakes victory by a neck in the listed Tom Benson Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds in March.

In her next start, Summer in Saratoga stumbled at Keeneland and unseated jockey Corey Lanerie, but the now 5-year-old mare resumed her solid campaign with a fourth-place finish in a stakes at Lone Star Park and then another stakes win in the listed Indiana General Distaff Assembly Stakes at Indiana Grand.
Summer in Saratoga finished seventh in a stakes held over Kentucky Downs’ turf course in September, but that set her up for a breakthrough graded stakes victory in her next start. Sharp stretched the mare out to 1 ½ miles for the Grade 3 Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 24, and the mare powered clear late under Lanerie to win by a half-length. She capped off her season with a victory in the Blushing K.D. Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 26.
