Stolen Base won his career debut July 23, 2021, at Saratoga Race Course before an unplaced finish in the Saratoga Special Stakes Presented by Miller Lite the following month. He then was switched over to try his luck on the turf and finished second in a Kentucky Downs allowance race before another runner-up finish in the Grade 2 Castle & Key Bourbon Stakes in October at Keeneland. Stolen Base closed out his 2-year-old season with an unplaced finish, beaten by four lengths, in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

Following a third-place finish in the Bob Bork Texas Turf Mile Stakes at Sam Houston in January, trainer Mike maker tested Stolen Base on the synthetic Tapeta Footings surface at Turfway Park and he ran second by a neck to highly regarded Tiz the Bomb in the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes. He subsequently was unplaced at Turfway behind Tiz the Bomb in the Jeff Ruby Steaks, a 100-point qualifying race for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
Stolen Base thus did not qualify for the run for the roses, but he did make a nice appearance on the Kentucky Derby undercard. The Bodemeister colt returned to the grass and closed powerfully to win the Grade 2, $500,000 American Turf Stakes Presented by BMW by 1 ¼ lengths despite clipping heels with another horse entering the first turn.
