Senor Buscador

Senor Buscador won his career debut convincingly Nov. 6, 2020, at Remington Park, where he closed from last to first to win by 2 ½ lengths in a 5 ½-furlong sprint.

The Mineshaft colt made his stakes debut Dec. 18 in the Remington Springboard Mile. Again rated last of 10 early by jockey Luis Quinonez, Senor Buscador launched his winning bid approaching the stretch and swept past nine opponents with a powerful rally to win by 5 ¾ lengths.

After a lengthy layoff, Senor Buscador was returned to the races on July 3, 2022, to begin his 4-year-old season with a two-length allowance score at Lone Star Park. From there, trainer Todd Fincher brought him out west for two graded stakes starts at Del Mar, first in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap where he finished eighth, and then in the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien on Aug. 27, where he closed for a third-place finish at seven furlongs.

Senor Buscador made his next start at Churchill Downs in the Grade 3 $300,000 Ack Ack Stakes at one mile.  Sent off as the 6-1 third choice in the wagering, Senor Buscador closed from the back of the pack to get up in time for a 1 1/4-length victory in a time of 1:34.60. The Ack Ack was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Win and You're In qualifying race for the Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, securing Senor Buscador a spot in the starting gate at Keeneland on Nov. 4. 

In his subsequent start in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, Senor Buscador raced near the back of the pack from the start and finished eighth in the nine-horse field.

Senor Buscador made his 2023 debut in the Curribot Handicap March 5 at Sunland Park and made easy work of the competition with a four-length victory. He was then beaten by three lengths in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap in April before finishing fifth in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes when stretching out to 1 ¼ miles for the first time.

Returning to a more manageable 1 1/16 miles for the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap July 29 at Del Mar, Senor Buscador rallied from last to first at 13.50-1 odds to post a 1 ¼-length win over Slow Down Andy.

Following losses in high-profile Grade 1 races such as the 2023 Breeders' Cup Classic and the 2024 Pegasus World Cup Invitational, Senor Buscador earned his career defining victory when he scored a come-from-behind win in the Group 1 $20 million Saudi Cup on Feb. 24, 2024, beating an international field that included Saudi Crown, Ushba Tesoro, Derma Sotogake, National Treasure, and White Abarrio.

A half-brother to graded stakes winner Runway Ghost, Senor Buscador is one of three stakes winners produced by seven-time stakes winner Rose’s Desert, by Desert God.
