Sally’s Curlin, a daughter of Hall of Famer Curlin owned by CJ Thoroughbreds, Left Turn Racing, and Casner Racing, broke her maiden in her fifth career start, taking a one-turn mile race at Churchill Downs by 4 ¼ lengths in June 2019.
She was moved up to graded stakes company immediately by trainer Dale Romans, but finished 11th in the Grade 3 Indiana Oaks. Sally’s Curlin then found consistent form, winning allowance races at Ellis Park and Churchill Downs before trying a graded stakes race again.

Sent off as the 1.90-1 second betting choice in the Nov. 2 Grade 3 Chilukki Stakes at Churchill, Sally’s Curlin closed from last to win the one-turn mile race by three quarters of a length over Mylady Curlin. The win improved her overall record to four wins in eight starts and boosted her earnings to just over $280,000.
Sally’s Curlin underperformed in her next start under the twin spires, checking in a well-defeated seventh in the Grade 2 Falls City Handicap in November. She returned for her five-year-old campaign and got back on the winning track with a 2 ¾-length score in the Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes on March 14, 2020 at Gulfstream Park.
