After finishing fifth in hid debut on dirt, Red Flag, a Tamarkuz colt owed by Jerry and Tina Moss, won his second career start on turf at Santa Anita Park on Oct. 10, 2020, overcoming a slow break and rallying from well back in the field to score by a neck in the 5 ½ furlong sprint. He was then moved back to dirt by trainer John Shirreffs to face tough company in his next start, the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes at Del Mar on Nov. 15.

Under Victor Martinez, Red Flag stalked the early pace and powered clear to win the seven-furlong race by 7 ¼ lengths at odds of 10.70-1. Stretching out to 1 1/16 miles for the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity, Red Flag never seriously threatened while finishing a nonthreatening fourth.
Red Flag is out of the Stormy Atlantic mare Surrender and is a half-brother to stakes winner Surrender Now.
