Performer made his career debut in November 2018 at Aqueduct and finished third. He did not race again for more than 7 ½ months, returning in late-June 2019 to win a maiden race at Belmont Park.
The chestnut Speightstown colt followed with allowance victories at Saratoga in August and at Belmont Park Sept. 29, 2019. stretching out to 1 1/16 miles in the latter for a 1 3/4-length win.

Performer made his stakes debut Nov. 30, 2019 in the Grade 3 Discovery Stakes at 1 1/8 miles. He seized command entering the stretch and then turned aside a bod from multiple graded stakes winner Tax to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths. He closed out his 2020 season with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap.
He picked up another stakes win to begin his 5-year-old campaign, winning the Grade 3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes on Jan. 23, 2021 going a mile. He followed up that effort with a third-place finish in the Grade 2 WinStar Gulfstream Park Mile on Feb. 27.
Performer is the second stakes winner out of Grade 2-placed Protesting, by A.P. Indy, joining half-sibling Breaking the Rules. This is the family ofundefeated champion Personal Ensign and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winners My Flag (Performer’s third dam) and Storm Flag Flying.
