Lost Ark

Lost Ark began his career 2-for-2 for trainer Todd Pletcher. He won a 5 ½-furlong maiden race at first asking at Belmont Park on July 3, 2022. He followed by stretching out to one mile and taking the $203,500 Sapling Stakes by 7 ½ lengths at Monmouth Park on Sept. 27.

Lost Ark was then sent to the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland on Oct. 8 where he finished sixth in a field of 14.  He subsequently started in the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Juvenile on Nov. 4 but was pulled up out of the race and failed to finish.

Lost Ark began his 3-year-old campaign with an allowance optional claiming win at Monmouth Park going 1 1/16 miles on the main track for a four-length victory on June 9. Later Lost Ask was switched to the turf for the first time and ran third in the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes at Saratoga on Sept. 1.

Lost Ark was scheduled to make his next start on the grass in the $500,000 Jockey Club Derby Invitational at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 7, but the race was rained off the turf and run instead at 1 1/4 miles on a sloppy main track. Perhaps in a lucky break for Lost Ark, he found himself against a field of four challengers meant for the turf and was able to roll to victory by three-quarters of a length.

Lost Ark is owned by Harrell Ventures and was sired by Violence out of Marion Ravenwood, by A. P. Indy. Dam (mother) Marion Ravenwood was named for the female protagonist in the film “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” In addition to Lost Ark, Marion Ravenwood also has produced multiple Grade 1 winner Nest, runner-up in both the 2022 Longines Kentucky Oaks and Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets, and Grade 1 winner Idol.
