How Did He Do That won two out of his first eight starts, including a 2022 stakes race at Zia Park, before jumping into graded stakes company March 26, 2023, in the Grade 3 Sunland Park Derby. He finished a non-threatening fourth in that race and did not earn any qualifying points for the 149th Derby because he wasn’t Triple Crown nominated.

How Did He Do That authored another stunning upset in his next start as he pressed the pace in the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby Sept. 24 at Remington Park and held off a powerful late rally from West Virginia Derby winner Red Route One to prevail by a nose at 44.60-1 odds.
Stakes-placed winner Stormin Maggy, by Storm Cat, is the dam (mother) of How Did He Do That. Stormin Maggy is a half-sister (same dam, different sire) to 2005 dual classic winner and champion 3-year-old male Afleet Alex.
