Getaway Car won his career debut as a 2-year-old with a front-running, 3 1/4-length victory win at Del Mar on July 20, 2024. Getaway Car was next tested in stakes company for his second start and delivered another victory when first by 5 1/2 lengths in the Grade 3 $100,000 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 11. He faded to fourth in his next start in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity in September. That was followed with a runner-up finish, beaten by two lengths by stablemate Citizen Bull, in the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes Presented by DK Horse Oct. 5 at Santa Anita Park.

The Curlin colt stalked pace-setting stablemate Citizen Bull in the $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Nov. 1 at Del Mar but faded a bit in deep stretch to finish fourth.

Getaway Car finished his juvenile campaign with a second-place finish in the Grade 2 $200,000 Los Alamitos Futurity on Dec. 14. The Los Al Futurity was a qualifying points race on the road to the 2025 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve, and his runner-up finish earned him five points, giving him a total of 16 points on the Derby leaderboard for his 2-year-old season.

Getaway Car made the first start of his 3-year-old campaign in the $400,000 Sunland Park Derby going 1 1/16 miles on Feb. 16, 2025, and emerged victorious atop an eight-horse field. Getaway Car led much of the way but was passed in deep stretch by Caldera. Getaway Car fought back and nipped Caldera by a nose to secure the victory. With his win, Getaway Car earned another 20 Kentucky Derby qualifying points.

In his next start on the Kentucky Derby trail, Getaway Car was shipped to Colonial Downs for the $500,000 Virginia Derby. He set the pace in the 1 1/8-mile race but faded late and finished fourth.

Getaway Car is trained by Bob Baffert. He was bred in Kentucky out of stakes winner Surrender Now, by Morning Line, and hails from the family of 1993 Kentucky Derby winner Sea Hero.
