Fancy Liquor, a Lookin At Lucky colt trained by Mike Maker, won his career debut on turf at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 7, 2020, and then shipped to Tufway Park for the March 14 Jeff Ruby Steaks in search of qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
He earned four points by finishing fourth in that race behind stablemate Field Pass and Invader, continuing on well through the stretch after setting the early pace.

Fancy Liquor did not race in any other Derby preps and instead moved back to turf, where he finished second in a a Churchill Downs allowance and then a very close third in the Grade 3 Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland to Field Pass.
In his next start, Fancy Liquor won the listed Caesars Stakes at Indiana Grand by a neck, and then matched up again with Field Pass and multiple stakes winner Smooth Like Strait in the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes Presented by Smithfield on Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs.
Under a well-timed ride from Florent Geroux, Fancy Liquor scored a mild upset win in the American Turf by a half-length over longshot Taishan, his third win in six starts and his first graded stakes.
