Doppelganger

Doppelganger broke his maiden in his 2-year-old career debut at Los Alamitos Race Course on Dec. 11, 2021, recovering from a bad start to win by 3 1/2 lengths.

In his 3-year-old debut, Doppelganger went off as the odds-on favorite in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 29, 2022. He raced wide throughout and finished fourth by 2 3/4 lengths. He stretched out around two turns next out in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes, and finished second, beaten 5 3/4 lengths by Forbidden Kingdom. He later finished fourth, beaten eight lengths in the 2022 Arkansas Derby.

After taking off the final six months of his 3-year-old season, Doppelganger returned for his 4-year-old debut in a 1 1/16-mile allowance race at Laurel Park on Jan. 27, 2023, and was victorious that day by 2 1/2 lengths for his second career win. He won again in his nest outing, which also came at Laurel in an allowance optional claiming race at one mile on Feb. 24.

With a 2-for-2 record in tow to begin his 4-year-old campaign, and in career-best form, Doppelganger was pointed to the Grade 1 $300,000 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct on April 8 for his next start. Sent off as the longest shot on the board in a six-horse field at 17-1 odds on the tote board in the Carter, Doppelganger came from behind, passed a lead trio of horses in the stretch, and drew off for a 1 1/4-length upset to pay $37.80 to win. He ran the seven furlongs in a winning time of 1:23.25.

Doppelganger was bred in Kentucky by the sire Into Mischief out of the mare Twice the Lady by Quiet American.
