Congruent

Congruent broke his maiden in his second lifetime start in a seven-furlong maiden race for 2-year-olds at Gulfstream Park on Aug. 13, 2022. After a loss in an allowance optional claiming mile race at Delaware Park on Sept. 10, Congruent was given a chance in the $150,000 Laurel Futurity, which was run on a slopy track on Oct. 1. In the Laurel Futurity, Congruent stalked the pace in a field of nine and took over in the stretch and drew off to a 2 1/2-length win, running one mile in a time of 1:40.2.

Congruent subsequently made his next start in the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Juvenile Presented by TAA on Nov. 4 at Keeneland, where he finished eighth in a 10-horse field. 

Following that, Congruent returned to his Florida base and made three consecutive starts in turf stakes races during winter 2022-23, finishing third in the Pulpit Stakes on Gulfstream Park. He then jumped on the 2023 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve trail, shipping up to Turfway Park in Kentucky for a start in the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes on March 4.

With 2022 Derby-winning jockey Sonny Leon in the irons, Congruent rallied from last to win the Battaglia by 3 ½ lengths on Turfway’s synthetic Tapeta Footings track, earning 20 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby.

Congruent is trained by Antonio Sano. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Tapit out of the mare Part the Seas by Stormy Atlantic.
