Con Lima

Con Lima started off her 3-year-old season on a winning note, taking the Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 2, 2021, by 3 1/4 lengths in gate-to-wire fashion. This Texas-bred filly was ridden by Paco Lopez, for trainer Todd Pletcher. She followed up that performance with a second-place effort in the Grade 3 Sweetest Chant Stakes on Jan. 30 on the same track.

Also stakes-placed twice as a 2-year-old, Con Lima finally secured a breakthrough graded stakes victory when she won via disqualification the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes Feb. 27, 2021, at Gulfstream Park.

The filly next tried a graded stakes on dirt and finished fourth, defeated by 4 1/2 lengths, in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks. Trainer Todd Pletcher moved her back to turf and she romped by four lengths as the 9-10 favorite in the listed Honey Ryder Stakes at Gulfstream Park on May 1.

Pletcher then shipped the filly to New York for a start in the Grade 3 Wonder Again Stakes at Belmont Park on June 4. Facing a tough field, Con Lima stalked the pace set by stablemate Jouster before mounting a rally under Flavien Prat. She dispatched Jouster in midstretch and had enough in reserve to hold off a late charge from Plum Ali to pick up a second graded stakes victory by a half length.

She made her next start in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes on Jul. 10. She set the early pace and held on for second behind favored Santa Barbara.

After that solid runner-up finish, Pletcher sent Con Lima to Saratoga for the second leg of the NYRA Turf Triple Series. Con Lima once again set the early pace and clipped off modest fractions under Flavien Prat. She kicked clear in early stretch and had more than enough stamina in reserve to hold off Higher Truth by a half-length, posting her seventh win in 13 career starts.

Stakes winner Second Street City, by Consolidator, is the dam (mother) of Con Lima.
