Time is running out on 2-year-olds hoping to post a stakes win before they turn 3 on Jan. 1. One of those last opportunities, Friday’s Remington Springboard Mile, offers the possibility of black-type status plus a chance to collect qualifying points toward a start in the 2024 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve. In descending value, 10-5-3-2-1 qualifying points will be awarded to the top five finishers in the two-turn test.

Remington Springboard Mile

Racetrack: Oklahoma City, Okla.

Date: Dec. 15

Purse: $300,000

Distance: 1 mile

Race: 10

Post Time: 10:28 p.m. ET

Notable winners: Senor Buscador (2020), Shoplifted (2019), Long Range Toddy (2018).

First held: 2001

1. Fidget (8-1, morning-line odds): Makes his stakes debut after back-to-back wins in a maiden and allowance race. Has a nice turn of speed and may be tough to catch from the rail.

JOCKEY: Marcelino Pedroza Jr.; TRAINER: Brad Cox

2. My Buddy Mel (20-1): Has some late run and may appreciate the two-turn, one-mile distance but will need to take a big jump in speed figures to be a main threat.

JOCKEY: Jermaine Bridgmohan; TRAINER: Danny Pish

3. Gettysburg Address (6-1): Tired and wound up fourth in the Street Sense on a wet track. Fast footing and a shorter distance should help his chances here.

JOCKEY: Flavien Prat; TRAINER: Brad Cox

4. Magic Grant (8-1): Disappointed in his career debut on this track then won a prep for this race, the Clever Trevor Stakes, at 23.90-1 odds. He was well-bet in his debut and if he takes another step forward, he could be a threat here.

JOCKEY: Richard Eramia; TRAINER: Eddie Milligan Jr.

Glengarry (Eclipse Sportswire)

5. Glengarry (7-2): Undefeated in three career starts, he was victorious in his first two starts at Remington. He then shipped to Keeneland and won the Bowman Mill Stakes. The big question mark is the distance as he’s yet to race beyond six furlongs. Yet with his early speed, he should be the one to catch.

JOCKEY: Luis Saez; TRAINER: Doug Anderson

6. Raging Torrent (3-1): Has a class edge after finishing fourth in two Grade 1 stakes in Southern California. If he runs back to his California form, he will be tough to handle.

JOCKEY: Antonio Fresu; TRAINER: Doug O’Neill

7. Rhino Runner (20-1): Made a big forward move in his second start, winning decisively in a maiden race at this track and distance. Will get tested for class in this field.

JOCKEY: Stewart Elliott; TRAINER: Sean Williams

8. Otto the Conqueror (5-2): Was a highly impressive winner in a Churchill Downs allowance race in the slop. Was a maiden winner before that. Figures to be on or near the lead through quick fractions but seems capable of hanging if he runs his best race.

JOCKEY: Tyler Gaffalione; TRAINER: Steve Asmussen

9. Third Street (20-1): Won an allowance race at Remington last time, but that was only a 5 1/2-furlong race. Was beaten by 26 ¼ lengths in the Clever Trevor and will not be helped by the outside post.

JOCKEY: Jose Alvarez; TRAINER: Shawn Davis

THE PICK: Raging Torrent

LIVE LONGSHOT: Gettysburg Address

SUPERFECTA: 6-8-5-3
