The Oaks is a marquee event for fillies in the United States. Famous fillies to win the race over the years include Alcibiades, Cicada, Susan's Girl, Davona Dale, Princess Rooney, Silverbulletday, Ashado, Rags to Riches and Rachel Alexandra among others. In 2012 Rosie Napravnik became the first female jockey to win the Kentucky Oaks aboard Believe You Can. She won a second Oaks in 2014 when piloting Untapable to victory.
Owner Calumet Farm has won six editions of the race while trainer Woody Stephens won the Oaks five times.
