Cathryn Sophia burst onto the racing scene by winning her first three races by a combined margin of 34 1/2 lengths. After improving to 3-for-3 in the Forward Gal Stakes, Cathryn Sophia extended her unbeaten streak to four with another runaway win in the Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes.
Cathryn Sophia tasted defeat for the first time when she finished third in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland Race Course in her final prep race for the Kentucky Oaks. She rebounded in a big way four weeks later. Cathryn Sophia rolled to a 2 3/4-length runaway win in the $1 million Kentucky Oaks.

“The filly, the way she did it today was amazing,” jockey Javier Castellano said after his first Oaks triumph before a record crowd of 124,589 that eclipsed the 2015 mark of 123,763.
Cathryn Sophia followed her Kentucky Oaks score by finishing third in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont, and then winning the Princess of Sylmar Stakes and finishing third in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes, both at Parx Racing.
The bay filly is owned by Cash Is King Stable, the partnership that raced 2005 Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes winner Afleet Alex. Her trainer, John Servis, conditioned 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones. Maryland-bred Cathryn Sophia was a $30,000 purchase as a yearling.
