After going 37 years without a Triple Crown, horse racing celebrated its second Triple Crown winner in just the last four years as Justify joined the ranks of 2015 champion American Pharoah when he captured the 2018 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. Not only was 2018 the year of Justify, it’ll also be remembered for dozens of heart-stopping races, thrilling battles and long-shot winners for the ages. #4: Gun Runner Goes Out on Top in Pegasus World Cup

The best horse of 2017 made his final career start in the richest race in the world to kick off 2018. Gun Runner didn’t disappoint. The newly-crowned 2017 Horse of the Year stalked and pounced before turning for home in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational and then turned back a challenge from West Coast in the stretch. The victory in the Pegasus World Cup was worth $7 million and bumped Gun Runner’s career earnings to nearly $16 million.
