2023 Louisiana Derby Cheat Sheet: Get to Know the Horses

The 1 1/16-mile, Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park is the first scoring race in Florida on the Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve schedule.
Future Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro won the Holy Bull on the Triple Crown trail in 2006, and last year’s edition was won by Irish War Cry, who went on to win the Wood Memorial Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets and finish second in the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets.
This year’s edition of the Holy Bull, set for 5:49 p.m. ET on Saturday, drew 11 horses. The Holy Bull will be televised on the new “Fox Sports Saturday At the Races” series airing on FS2 as well as on TVG.

He’s a Grade 1 winner around two turns with a pedigree that suggests he should be able to run all day.

Notable achievements and interesting facts: Bandito won his second start going 1 1/8 miles at Keeneland in October by two lengths but his first taste of stakes competition left much to be desired. He pressed the pace in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes before fading to finish last of 10. From the second crop of Grade 1 winner Creative Cause, Bandito would need to take a significant step forward to be competitive with this group. Calumet Farm, which also owns Pony Up and co-owns Master Manipulator, is the all-time leading owner of Triple Crown race winners with 18, most recently winning the Preakness Stakes with Oxbow in 2013.
