From Nyquist enjoying his new career, to Shagaf making his comeback, everyone from last year’s Kentucky Derby field is listed right here to answer your “where is he, and what did he do after the Derby?” questions.


Nyquist

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Nyquist went off as the favorite at 2.30-1 and broke from post 13.

Where he finished: He became only the second horse to take both the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Kentucky Derby when winning the Derby by 1 ¼ lengths.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Nyquist went on to finish third in the Preakness Stakes two weeks later.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Nyquist retired after a sixth-place finish in the Pennsylvania Derby and is currently standing his first season at stud at Darley in Kentucky.


Exaggerator

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Exaggerator went off as the second choice at 5.10-1 odds when breaking from the 11 post.

Where he finished: He made a late rally to finish second.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: After the Kentucky Derby, Exaggerator won the Preakness Stakes and two months later won the Betfair.com Haskell Invitational Stakes.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Exaggerator retired after a seventh-place finish in the Pennsylvania Derby and is standing stud at WinStar Farm in Kentucky.


Gun Runner

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Gun Runner went off as the 10.30-1 third choice and was in post position 5.

Where he finished: He contested the pace and held on well to finish third.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Gun Runner was one of the most consistent 3-year-olds of his crop. After the Kentucky Derby, he won the Matt Winn Stakes in his next start then added the Grade 1 Clark Handicap to his total at the end of the year, and also finished in the money in the Las Vegas Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, Pennsylvania Derby and Travers Stakes.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Gun Runner is still racing. He won the Razorback Handicap on Feb. 20 and was second to Arrogate in the Dubai World Cup at the end of March.


Mohaymen

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Breaking from the 14 post, Mohaymen went off as the 10.30-1 fourth choice.

Where he finished: Mohaymen finished fourth, a head behind Gun Runner.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: After the Kentucky Derby, Mohaymen finished fourth in the Jim Dandy Stakes but was given the rest of the year off after finishing 11th in the Ketel One King’s Bishop Stakes that August.

What he is currently doing in 2017: After a long break, Mohaymen has been working regularly and should be back to the races soon.


Suddenbreakingnews

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Suddenbreakingnews went off at 24.60-1 when breaking from post position 2.

Where he finished: Suddenbreakingnews was part of a three-way photo for third but lost out when he finished fifth by a nose to Mohaymen.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Suddenbreakingnews’ biggest accomplishment after the Kentucky Derby was a fifth-place finish in the West Virginia Derby.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Suddenbreakingnews has raced twice this year with his best finish being a fourth in January.


Destin

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: An 18-1 shot when the gates opened, Destin broke from the 9 post.

Where he finished: Sixth.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Destin went on to finish second by a nose in the Belmont Stakes and was then third in the Jim Dandy Stakes.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Destin hasn’t raced since finishing ninth in the Travers Stakes last August, but has been consistently working since March 31 of this year.


Brody’s Cause

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Brody’s Cause broke from post position 19 as a 24.90-1 shot.

Where he finished: Seventh.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Brody’s Cause only raced once after the Derby, finishing sixth in the Belmont Stakes.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Brody’s Cause is currently standing at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky.


Mo Tom

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: A 25.70-1 shot, Mo Tom broke from post position 4.

Where he finished: Eighth.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Mo Tom won the Ohio Derby in his first start after the Kentucky Derby.

What he is currently doing in 2017: He has raced twice in 2017, but both efforts have been off-the-board finishes in graded stakes.


Lani

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: The lovable Japanese runner went off at odds of 29.30-1 when breaking from the eight hole.

Where he finished: Ninth.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Lani was third in the Belmont Stakes than third again in the Brazil Cup back in Japan.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Lani raced twice this spring in Dubai with two off-the-board finishes.


Mor Spirit

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: A 12.80-1 shot, Mor Spirit started from post 17 in the Derby.

Where he finished: 10th.

Other Notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Mor Spirit took a lengthy break after the Derby and returned just in time to finish fourth in the Malibu Stakes the day after Christmas.

What he is currently doing in 2017: After finishing second in the San Antonio Stakes, Mor Spirit won the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn Park in March.


My Man Sam

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: This 19.50-1 shot was in post 6 in the Derby.

Where he finished: 11th.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: My Man Sam finished second in an allowance and third in the Discovery Stakes after the Derby.

What he is currently doing in 2017:  My Man Sam was training earlier this year but hasn’t had a posted workout since March 27.


Tom’s Ready

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: A 49.10-1 shot, Tom’s Ready started the race from post position 12.

Where he finished: 12th.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Tom’s Ready won the Woody Stephens Stakes and the Ack Ack Stakes after the Derby.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Tom’s Ready hasn’t raced since the Las Vegas Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile but is working regularly.


Creator

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Breaking from the No. 3 post, Creator went off at 16.40-1 odds.

Where he finished: 13th.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Creator won the Belmont Stakes in his next start after the Derby.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Creator was sold to Japan in the fall and is currently standing his first season at stud in that country.


Outwork

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Breaking from post position 15, Outwork was a 26.50-1 shot.

Where he finished: 14th.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Outwork never raced again after the Kentucky Derby.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Outwork currently stands alongside Exaggerator at WinStar Farm.


Danzing Candy

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: Danzing Candy had the bad luck of drawing post No. 20 and went off at odds of 25.70-1.

Where he finished: 15th, after setting the early pace.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: After switching to trainer Bob Baffert’s barn, Danzing Candy finished second in his last start of the year in the July 2 Affirmed Stakes.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Danzing Candy recently returned to the track and was third in the Joe Hernandez Stakes in March.


Trojan Nation

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: A maiden coming into the Derby, Trojan Nation was in the No. 1 post and went off at odds of 42.10-1.

Where he finished: 16th.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Two starts after the Kentucky Derby, Trojan Nation finally broke his maiden.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Trojan Nation has not raced since Dec. 30.


Oscar Nominated

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: A 42.30-1 shot, Oscar Nominated was in post No. 7 in the Derby.

Where he finished: 17th.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Oscar Nominated won the Exacta Systems Dueling Grounds Derby in September and finished on the board in the American Derby and the Tropical Park Derby.

What he is currently doing in 2017: This year Oscar Nominated has spent plenty of time in the bridesmaid position, finishing second in the John B. Connally Turf Cup and the Fair Grounds Handicap in addition to a third in the Muniz Memorial Handicap last month.


Majesto

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: The longest shot on the board at 56.60-1, Majesto also had a wide draw in No. 18.

Where he finished: 18th.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Majesto’s only start after the Derby came in the Curlin Stakes in late July when he finished sixth.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Majesto hasn’t raced since the Curlin Stakes but did just return to the work tab on April 22.


Whitmore

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: A 30.30-1 shot, Whitmore was in post No. 10 in the Derby.

Where he finished: 19th.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: Whitmore returned to the track in December for his first start since the Kentucky Derby, winning an allowance optional claiming race.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Since that December return, Whitmore has won four straight races including the Hot Springs Stakes in March and the Count Fleet Sprint Handicap in April.


Shagaf

Odds and post position in the 2016 Kentucky Derby: A 56-1 shot, Shagaf wore the No. 16 saddle towel.

Where he finished: Shagaf was pulled up in and walked off the track.

Other notable achievements in 2016 after the Derby: He didn’t race for the rest of 2016.

What he is currently doing in 2017: Shagaf recently made his comeback after nearly a year, finishing fifth.
