The Triple Crown is over, but racing excitement is just transitioning to its “second season”—the run-up to the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita Park in November. Many top 3-year-olds are aiming for the $6-million Breeders’ Cup Classic or one of the other Breeders’ Cup races, but they’ll have a few preps before then. Catch up with the summer plans for the Belmont Stakes runners below.

Headed for Saratoga

Belmont Stakes winner Creator has arrived at WinStar Farm for a freshening and will move on to Saratoga in upstate New York later this summer, where he’ll target the $1.25-million Travers Stakes on Aug. 27.

Trainer Todd Pletcher has said his Belmont runner-up Destin and fifth-place finisher Stradivari are also headed to Saratoga with aim on the Travers. Both could prepare for that race with a start in the July 30 Jim Dandy Stakes or July 31 Haskell Invitational, with Saratoga’s July 29 Curlin Stakes also mentioned for Stradivari.

California-based Preakness winner Exaggerator will stay in New York after his 11^th-place finish in the Belmont. Trainer Keith Desormeaux will ship the horse to Saratoga once the Belmont meet ends, where the Jim Dandy and the Travers are the goals. Exaggerator won the Saratoga Special over the track in 2015.

Trainer Dallas Stewart has reported that his 12^th- and 13^th-place finishers, Seeking the Soul and Forever d’Oro, will both head to Saratoga but their objectives will be against allowance company rather than stakes company.

Headed elsewhere

Belmont third-place finisher Lani is headed back to Japan on June 19 after running in all three Triple Crown races. His next major goal for the year is the Champions Cup in Japan on December 4.

Suddenbreakingnews had plans to return to Churchill Downs on Monday, June 13, after finishing ninth in the Belmont Stakes as the bettors’ second choice.

Belmont pacesetter and eighth-place finisher Gettysburg, who was transferred to the barn of Steve Asmussen to run in the Belmont, will not head back to Todd Pletcher’s barn and has instead accompanied stablemate Creator to WinStar Farm for a vacation.

Plans unannounced

Governor Malibu exited his fourth-place finish in the Belmont Stakes well, though trainer Christophe Clement has not determined where he’ll go next.

Dale Romans has not announced what’s next for his two Belmont runners, Brody’s Cause and Cherry Wine.

Trojan Nation’s summer plans have not been divulged.
