The partnership is composed of a group of three businessmen from Billings, Mont. Billings is known as the "Magic City" because of its amazing growth from its founding as a railroad town in 1882 to its current status as a major city in the state. Dan Fuchs, a business development and political consultant, has been involved with racing since 1988 and did some training. Fuchs and his lifelong friend Carter Stewart formed White Hat Racing in 2005 and operated that small stable.

Fuchs and his lifelong friend Carter Stewart formed White Hat Racing in 2005 and operated that small stable. Ken Schlenker, an associate of Stewart's in the oil business, came aboard in March 2011 and they formed Magic City. They purchased a pair of 2-year-olds, Golden Ticket and Unbridled Minister, at the Keeneland April sale and have since expanded their stable to 10 horses.
In 2012, Golden Ticket deadheated in a thrilling Haskell Invitational.
In 2013, Magic City Thoroughbreds campaigned Frac Daddy in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes. The grey son of Scat Daddy also boasts a runner up effort in the Arkansas Derby (G1).
