Jay Em Ess Stable is named for the initials of Samantha Siegel (pictured) and those of her late parents, Jan and Mace. Jan and Mace met on a blind date at a race track in 1962 and made their fortune in retail development. They were heavily involved in the Thoroughbred industry in California, and Mace co-founded the owners' organization Thoroughbred Owners of California. Samantha now operates the stable.
Masochistic is pointed to the 2016 Breeders' Cup Las Vegas Dirt Mile after impressively winning the Pat O'Brien Stakes, a "Win and You're In" qualifying race, in August.
