LOCATION:Saratoga Race Course
DESCRIPTION:A race that can trace its roots back to 1887, the Manhattan Stakes was originally run at Morris Park in New York before moving to Belmont Park in 1905. While it has moved to Aqueduct a few times since then, it has been run at Belmont more often than not with the race staying at the track since 1968.
The Manhattan has been run at multiple different distances but is currently run at 10 furlongs (1 ¼ miles) for horses four and older. Bolingbroke has the most wins in the race with three (1940, 1942, 1943) with a large group of horses having two wins each in the race. Three owners are tied at four a piece and trainer James Rowe, Sr. leads all trainers with five. Jockey Jerry Bailey leads his division with five wins as well. Horses who won the race include Firenze (1888), Firearm (1899-1900), Stymie (1946), Round Table (1959), Smart (1963), Sky Classic (1992), Award (1995), Cacique (2006), Gio Ponti (2009) and Point of Entry (2013).
