Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).
Stop back if you love tacos and want to get a trifecta play!
This week’s eatery:
- I liked the Carnitas over the Al Pastor and Carne Asada
- $1.89 each taco
- Salsa roja packs good heat but great flavor
- Good selection of soft drinks and beers
This week’s Trifecta key:
Saturday, Jan. 25
Gulfstream Park, Race 12, $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes presented by Runhappy, 5:34 p.m. ET
#3 Diamond Oops: He returned to Gulfstream and ran away with the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector in a sharp effort. Two starts ago, he lunged at the start in the Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and never looked comfortable after that in a race to ignore. Two turns on the dirt is still a question for him and that’s why his price should be solid despite some of the key scratches. I was very impressed with his second in the Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland three starts ago and he has already proven that he loves this track. His sire (father) was a terrific router on the dirt and his dam (mother) was a stakes winner around two turns at Monmouth. With Omaha Beach and Spun to Run both scratched, I think he’s facing a field without any standouts and I can see him getting a piece of this.
Strategy on $100 Budget:
$1 trifecta: 3 with 1,2,6,8,10,12 with 1,2,6,8,10,12 ($30)
$1 trifecta: 1,2,6,8,10,12 with 3 with 1,2,6,8,10,12 ($30)
$1 trifecta: 1,2,6,8,10,12 with 1,2,6,8,10,12 with 3 ($30)
