Belmont Stakes day is right around the corner, and if you’re planning on heading to New York for the third leg of the Triple Crown, we have 10 things you should know before you go!

1. There’s only one horse who has competed in all three Triple Crown races this year.

War of Will would be the only horse to compete in all three Triple Crown races of 2019 if, as expected, he races in the final jewel of the Triple Crown. Interestingly, if he wins the Belmont Stakes, he’ll become only the 12th horse in history to come up short in the Kentucky Derby and then win the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. In a way, that’s a rarer feat than sweeping the Triple Crown, which has been done 13 times!

2. It’s easy to place a bet on Belmont Stakes day.

Whether you want to bet $2 or $2,000, playing the ponies on Belmont Stakes day is easy. Just remember that all bets done at the track have to be either in cash or done via the NYRA Bets app. If you’re new to betting, don’t worry! You can sound like a pro in minutes with our intro guide.

3. It’s really easy to take public transportation to and from the Belmont Stakes.

If you live in New York City or the surrounding areas, it’s surprisingly easy to cruise into the Belmont without a car. In addition to rideshare apps like Lyft and Uber, the Long Island Rail Road takes you directly to the track from Penn Station. They’ll have trains going all day and into the night, so check the schedule and leave your car at home.

A couple of tips: You can find Belmont Park under the “Deals and Getaways” section at the transit machines; and when you buy your tickets, be sure to get the roundtrip fare so you don’t have to wait on long lines to get home.

Not a train fan? There are also buses that head directly to the park as well as subway access not far from the track. You can find out more right here, or learn about parking for the Belmont Stakes.

4. There’s a show after the races.

Come for the races, stay for the concert! This year, Flo Rida is playing the Belmont Stakes right after the final race. Shorty, get low, low, low, low, low, low, low. You know you want to.

5. No hyperbole: Belmont Stakes day is shaping up to be one of the best days of racing this year.

Belmont Stakes day is so much more than the finale of the Triple Crown races: There will be 10 (!!!) stakes races including eight Grade 1 stakes (the most elite races) and three Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” races, which qualify their victors for horse racing’s World Championships in November. This day is going to be bonkers good, so be sure to get there early so you don’t miss a minute!

6. You can still buy tickets!

You might be surprised by what you can bring to the track – snacks are welcome! – but it’s equally important to know what’s not welcome on Belmont day. Be sure to check out the full list of permitted and banned items right here.

8. Grab the signature cocktail and come home with a souvenir.

If you’re a fan of cocktails, be sure to try the Belmont Jewel when you’re at the track. A combination of bourbon, lemonade, pomegranate juice, and orange zest, it’s a tasty and refreshing way to welcome summer. Even better: You can get it in a souvenir glass that you can bring home with you.

9. If you love to dress up, you can win amazing prizes.

If you love dressing up as so many New Yorkers do, be sure to enter the Longines Fashion Contest! The winner is awarded a stunning Longines watch, so bring your best and strut your stuff.

10. There are events galore on Belmont Stakes day.

There are 13 races planned for Belmont day, but the action doesn’t stick to the track: From West Point jumpers to a "Rock of Ages" production, there’s a lot going on at the park on Saturday. Check out the full list of events right here, and plan on a great day at the track.
