Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).

This week’s Trifecta key:
Saturday, July 6
#3 Seismic Wave (5-1 odds): He found himself in last place with too much ground to make up while chasing a slow pace up front in the Grade 3 Pennine Ridge Stakes on June 1. He then made a wide bid and finished well to narrowly miss by a neck. I thought it was a terrific effort in defeat considering how the race unfolded. What I like most about him is that he brings his closing kick no matter the situation. It doesn’t matter if he’s stretching out or cutting back in distance or racing at one of four different tracks or racing on a firm course or a yielding turf course. He always fires. I like that Joel Rosario has gotten to know him in his last two starts while going up in class, and I think he’s going to enjoy the extra distance today. There are more accomplished rivals in this field, and that’s why i think his odds will be much higher than the 5-1 morning-line price.
