Tacos and Trifectas: Rubio's Fish Tacos, American Oaks Play

Events / Travel

Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).

Stop back if you love tacos and want to get a trifecta play!

This week’s eatery:

Locations throughout Southern California

Beer-battered fish tacos

Score: 8.7

  • Crunchy and tasty batter
  • Delicious fish
  • $1.75 original fish taco on Tuesdays
  • Good selection of salsas

Recap of the previous wager: Andesh wasn’t able to hit the board and finished seventh in the field of nine runners.

This week’s trifecta key:

Saturday, Dec. 28

Santa Anita Park, Race 6, $300,000 American Oaks, 4:44 p.m. ET

#2 Apache Princess (5-1): She shipped up to Golden Gate Fields and closed ground late to get up for second in a sprint in her most recent race. That was her first try over a synthetic surface. I'm not sure that she ran her best over that track. I think she’s going to enjoy getting back to a route over the turf. None of the fillies in this field have tried going this far and I think she fits very well against these. There are four runners in this field that are coming out of graded stakes events and I think that is going to help us get a better price on Apache Princess.

Strategy on $100 Budget:

$1 trifecta: 2 with 3,4,5,6,7,8 with 3,4,5,6,7,8  ($30)

$1 trifecta: 3,4,5,6,7,8 with 2 with 3,4,5,6,7,8  ($30)

$1 trifecta: 3,4,5,6,7,8 with 3,4,5,6,7,8  with 2 ($30)

$10 to win on #2 Apache Princess

ROI Year to date: $1800 wagered / $106 returned
