Tacos and Trifectas: 'Ritas Cantina and a Jeff Ruby Longshot

Events / Travel

Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).

Stop back if you love tacos and want to get a trifecta play!

This week’s trifecta key:

Saturday, March 9

Turfway Park, Race 11, $200,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks, 6:37 p.m. ET

#9 Curlin Grey (10-1 odds): He broke slowly, dropped back to last and made good late bid to get up for third in a good effort against optional claiming foes at Gulfstream Park. He has improved as a 3-year-old and I think he has a running style that can play well over this track. I like that the rider that was aboard for the last two starts also ships in to ride here.

Strategy on $100 Budget:

$1 trifecta: 9 with 1,2,3,4,6,10 with 1,2,3,4,6,10 ($30)

$1 trifecta: 1,2,3,4,6,10 with 9 with 1,2,3,4,6,10 ($30)

$1 trifecta: 1,2,3,4,6,10 with 1,2,3,4,6,10 with 9 ($30)

$10 to win on #9 Curlin Grey

ROI Year to date: $400 wagered / $0 returned
