Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).
Stop back if you love tacos and want to get a trifecta play!

Recap of previous wager: Our key horse, Nero, was in contention early on but was unable to hit the board. We ended 2018 with $1441.30 in winnings from $1780 wagered which adds up to a negative result of -$338.70 for the season. There were a few bad beats in between but we can do better. In 2017, we finished with a profit of $920 which means we are still on the good side of things for the two seasons of Tacos and Trifectas. Let’s make 2019 even better!
This week’s Trifecta key:
Saturday, Jan. 26
#4 Aerolithe (8-1 odds): Invades from Japan with a record of four wins and five seconds in 13 starts with earnings of more than $3 million. The distance could be a difficult question to answer, but I like the way she has settled in. Reports say she is looking fit, happy, and ready to go. She likes to be on the lead or close to the leaders early on, and I think she’s going to get a good trip.
Strategy on $100 Budget:
$1 trifecta: 4 with 1,2,5,6,7,8 with 1,2,5,6,7,8 ($30)
