Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI), which was positive in 2017.
Stop back each week if you love tacos and want a trifecta play!
This week’s eatery:
Taqueria 2 Potrillos
403 S. D St.
We had no intention of filming this on this particular day so we didn’t have the camera and microphone on hand but credit to Taqueria 2 Portrillos for having great tacos that made us record on our phone.
- Great selection of drinks
- Handmade tortillas were terrific
- Salsa bar had various good options
- Price of the tacos was easy on the wallet
This week’s trifecta key:
Saturday, Santa Anita Park, Race 8, $75,000 China Doll Stakes, 6:30 p.m. ET
#8 Lexington Grace (6-1 odds): She broke well, was taken back to last, saved ground along the inside and made a good move late to get up for fourth in her first start in the U.S. since arriving from Europe. She has now had plenty of time to get settled in and freshen up for her first start of the year. She ran some of her best races with blinkers and she will now add them back on after not wearing them last time out. I think she’s ready to run a big effort.
Strategy on $80 Budget:
$1 trifecta: 8 with 1,6,9,11,12 with 1,6,9,11,12 ($20)
$1 trifecta:1,6,9,11,12 with 8 with 1,6,9,11,12 ($20)
$1 trifecta: 1,6,9,11,12 with 1,6,9,11,12 with 8 ($20)
$20 win on #8 Lexington Grace ($20)
ROI Year to date: $408 wagered / $88.80 returned
