Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI), which was positive in 2017.
Stop back each week if you love tacos and want a trifecta play!
This week’s eatery:
Club House Mezzanine at Santa Anita Park
- Fresh and quick
- Good size portion for the price
- Green salsa had good flavor
What to Improve:
- Carnitas were underseasoned
- Tortillas tasted a bit bland, maybe a better quality tortilla could be used
This week’s Trifecta key:
Saturday, Santa Anita Park, Race 5, $100,000 Sham Stakes, 5:30 p.m. ET
#3 All Out Blitz (10-1 odds): I think he’s a horse that has begun to figure things out. I liked the way he battled in deep stretch when putting away the favorite and holding off a late charge from a closer last time out. I thought his third-place finish two starts back at Del Mar was better than it looks on paper. This will be his first time stretching out and that’s why we will get very good odds on him. I think he’s ready to take another step forward.
Strategy on $80 Budget:
$1 Trifecta: 3 with 1,2,4,5,6 with 1,2,4,5,6 ($20)
$1 Trifecta: 1,2,4,5,6 with 3 with 1,2,4,5,6 ($20)
$1 Trifecta: 1,2,4,5,6 with 1,2,4,5,6 with 3 ($20)
$20 Win on #3 All Out Blitz ($20)
