The Delaware Handicap is one of the most significant and historic races in the sport. The race was first run as the New Castle Handicap in 1937 and was renamed the Delaware Handicap in 1955. In recent years, some of the most prominent female racehorses have used the race to showcase their talents, and as a springboard for championship campaigns.

Speaking of champions, two-time Eclipse Award-winning filly Songbird took center stage at the 2017 “Del ‘Cap”. She went off as a heavy favorite and she didn’t disappoint. It was her 13th win out of 14 career starts — and it also raised her career earnings to an awesome $4,562,000. Throughout the day, people on Twitter shared and followed the action from Delaware Park, which included several other stakes races and a Delaware Handicap that we won’t soon forget.
