A summer staple, Discovery Channel’s Shark Week returns on Sunday, July 23, at 7 p.m. ET, and it features racehorse owner Michael Phelps testing his own racing prowess in a unique contest.

Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, makes a splash with the most interesting race of his career in “Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White.”

They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: sharks. He is our greatest champion to ever get in the water: Michael Phelps. 39 world records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win. An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before. The world’s most decorated athlete takes on the ocean’s most efficient predator: Phelps vs. shark – the race is on! The show airs on July 23 at 8 p.m. ET.

Phelps also gets schooled on everything ‘shark’ at the Bimini Shark Lab in "Shark School With Michael Phelps," airing Sunday, July 30, at 8 p.m. ET. Doc Gruber and Tristan Guttridge of the Bimini Shark Lab will dispel shark myths and common misconceptions and teach him how to safely dive with sharks as he gets within two feet of a hammerhead shark and experiences the power of a great white.

Phelps’ competitive nature led him to invest in Thoroughbred racehorses, winning his first race with a horse he co-owned, Cerro, in 2013. He has since owned several others, including Water Cube, who is now being retrained for a second career with Olympic equestrian Phillip Dutton.
