Tacos and Trifectas: Shopping for a Winner

Events / Travel

Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).

Stop back each week if you love tacos and want a trifecta play!

This week’s eatery:

Cocina Fresca, a taco truck at Pike Outlets

Long Beach, Calif.

Score: 6.9

The Good:

  • Authentic street style tacos

What to Improve:

  • Seasoning left much to be desired
  • Salsa could use a bit more kick

This week’s Trifecta key:

Saturday, Los Alamitos Race Course, Race 9, King Glorious Stakes, 6:58 p.m. ET

#4 Lucky Romano (6-1 odds): I thought his big maiden-breaking score in his second start was a legitimate improvement when winning by more than eight lengths. I think he can still run better than what he showed in his first try around two turns and he does own a third-place finish behind the expected favorite Bookies Luck. I expect him to get a good trip stalking the early pacesetters.

Strategy on $80 Budget:

$1 Trifecta: 4 with 2,3,5,6,7 with 2,3,5,6,7 ($20)

$1 Trifecta: 2,3,5,6,7 with 4 with 2,3,5,6,7 ($20)

$1 Trifecta: 2,3,5,6,7 with 2,3,5,6,7 with 4 ($20)

$20 Win on #4 Lucky Romano ($20)

ROI Year to date: $1840 wagered / $2579.50 returned
