Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).
Stop back each week if you love tacos and want a trifecta play!
This week’s eatery:
- Tacos are only $1.39
- Green Salsa gets a thumbs up
- Good selection of Mexican sodas
- Quick service
What to Improve:
- Al Pastor was cooked on flat top and not the authentic vertical way
- Indoor seating is a bit cramped which makes it best suited for carry out
This week’s Trifecta key:
Saturday, Oct. 21, Santa Anita Park, Race 9, 7:38 p.m. ET
#5 Ippodamia’s Girl (6-1 odds): I thought she was well meant in her Del Mar outing but she just never looked comfortable. I think getting back on the turf will help her out. In her debut at Ellis Park, she broke last, was in an uncomfortable spot along the inside and had to steady multiple times before finding her best stride late. She’s lightly raced and still has plenty of room to improve.
Strategy on $80 Budget:
$1 Trifecta: 5 with 7,9,10,11,12 with 7,9,10,11,12 ($20)
$1 Trifecta: 7,9,10,11,12 with 5 with 7,9,10,11,12 ($20)
$1 Trifecta: 7,9,10,11,12 with 7,9,10,11,12 with 5 ($20)
$20 Win on #5 Ippodamia’s Girl ($20)
ROI Year to date: $1200 wagered / $166.10 returned
