Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).
Stop back each week if you love tacos and want a trifecta play!
This week’s eatery:
I didn’t expect to get tacos from a mall food court but I decided to give Chile Verde a try. I honestly think I might have given it a better score than it deserved.
- Fresh, warm, and salty chips
- Green salsa gets a thumbs up
- They had the glass bottle made-in-Mexico Pepsi available
What to Improve:
- Better tortillas
- Give me some onions and cilantro
- Save the lettuce and pico de gallo for hard shell tacos
- Improve the marinade for the carne asada
This week’s Trifecta key:
Saturday, Santa Anita Park, Race 3, 4:15 p.m. ET
#7 Cool Munnings (6-1 odds): She broke a bit sluggish but then showed good speed in her Del Mar debut when missing second by just a long neck on the turf. She tried the dirt in her second outing at Los Alamitos and never really got involved after veering out to get bumped hard out of the gate. I think the return to turf will benefit her while only making her third start.
Strategy on $80 Budget:
$1 Trifecta: 7 with 1,3,5,10,11 with 1,3,5,10,11 ($20)
$1 Trifecta: 1,3,5,10,11 with 7 with 1,3,5,10,11 ($20)
$1 Trifecta: 1,3,5,10,11 with 1,3,5,10,11 with 7 ($20)
$20 Win on #7 Cool Munnings ($20)
