Every August, upstate New York is the center of the universe for horse lovers. Saratoga Race Course has been a haven for Thoroughbreds since 1863, and fans flock to the annual summer meet to experience the beauty and history of the track that has come to be known as the Spa.

One of the most popular activities at Saratoga is to spend the early morning hours at the track to watch horses train. Fans can access the barn area at the Oklahoma training track to see the horses and their handlers in their daily routines, and Saratoga also offers a breakfast in the Grandstand for vacationers and locals to take in the sights every morning at the Spa.

In the slideshow below, Penelope Miller shares some photographs from the morning hours this year at Saratoga; from sunrise at the track to the tranquility of the barn areas, here are the moments that make mornings magical at Saratoga.
