Splendid weather welcomed a crowd of 32,610 to Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday for the track’s biggest racecard of its short-but-sweet spring meet. Fans packed the grandstand, paddock, track apron, and tailgating areas to enjoy social gatherings, dress fashionably, and most importantly, see some world-class Thoroughbred racing.

The day was highlighted by the $1 million Toyota Blue Grass Stakes, a key prep race for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands. Melissa Bauer-Herzog was on hand to witness the entire spectacle, which concluded with a surprise winner of the Blue Grass and a shakeup in the Kentucky Derby leaderboard. Here’s her photo diary of Blue Grass day at Keeneland.
