Woodward Fashion for Any Budget

Events / Travel

The Woodward Stakes is this Saturday at Saratoga Race Course, and the winner of the race earns the lion’s share of the $600,000 purse. If you’re planning on heading to Saratoga to witness the historic race in person, we have a few suggestions on how to dress to impress no matter your budget. The “win” looks are the most expensive, the “place” outfits are mid-range, and the “show” items are the most affordable. Remember: if you see an item in any of the sets that you can’t live without, simply click on the image to shop the look!

This Theory suit is a classic staple in an unexpected material; that modern take on a standby is perfect for the races; and you can accentuate the style with a Theory shirt and tie in sophisticated navy. Add a Blake Collection by Christine A. Moore fedora, a pair of Wayfarers and a sleek Dunhill pocket square to make the look perfect for an afternoon at Saratoga.

A sleek jumpsuit (Theory) is both sophisticated and playful for a day at Saratoga; add a Christine A. Moore wide-brim hat, an Eddie Borgo choker, a Longines Evidenza watch and a pair of silver-accented BCBG Max Azria shoes to up the drama; then finish off the look with a Narciso Rodriguez clutch, and you’re off to the races in high style!

PLACE

Celebrate the end of summer by donning a pair of cotton trousers by TopMan and a sky-blue blazer from E-Artist layered over a French-cuff dress shirt by Nieman Marcus. Add a horse racing-themed bow tie from Pen-See and a straw trilby by River Island to make the ensemble perfect for the Woodward; and finish off the look with a pair of Sperry socks in navy and a classic pair of loafers from River Island.

Pretty florals are perfect for a day at the Saratoga races. Build your look around an eye-catching skirt like this one from John Lewis, then add a bold top (Aspesi) to make the skirt pop. A pair of whimsical shades (Go Jane) and an eye-catching fascinator by Silk Fred add a sense of fun, and a classic pair of white sandals (hey, it’s still before Labor Day!) from Shoe Dazzle are a perfect accent. (You may also want to tuck a pair of foldable flats from Yosi Samra in your Emma Fox tote bag in case your feet need a break!) A set of delicate Nanette Lapore bangles is the perfect way to finalize your Woodward Stakes look at Saratoga!

SHOW

Start with a pair of bold blue trousers like these from Docker; then add a subtle check shirt (Vince Camuto) and a blue horse racing-themed tie from Alynn. A khaki sports coat by Historic is both stylish and a lightweight for a summer day at the track, and a pair of moccasins by Izod will keep your feet happy all day. Finish the look with a modern pair of Rocawear sunglasses, and you’re ready to be off to the races!

You’ll look unforgettable without breaking the bank!
