How to Win the Eddie Read Stakes

Events / Travel

This Sunday’s Eddie Read Stakes is pitting some of the best turf horses in America against each other and Jen Ferguson is here to show us what makes them successful racehorses on the turf.

Run for the first time in 1974, the Eddie Read Stakes is run at 1 1/8 miles on the turf and Wickerr, Fastness, Special Ring, and Acclamation have each won the race twice. Corey Nakatani and Bobby Frankel have the most wins in the jockey and trainer categories with five and seven, respectively. Four different owners have won the race to times with Edmund A. Gann (1981-82) and Prestonwood Farm (2003-04) each winning consecutive runnings of the race.

The Jockey Club Tour on FOX will be at Del Mar and Saratoga with live coverage of the Eddie Read and TVG Coaching Club American Oaks on FOX Sports 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 20.
